Takeout Beef and Broccoli
When it comes to comforting and satisfying meals, the classic beef and broccoli is a timeless favorite.
INGREDIENTS
Marinade:
5 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup low sodium beef broth
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
4 teaspoons sugar
4 teaspoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons ginger paste
6 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
Stir-fry:
1 pound top sirloin, flank, or skirt steak, cut into strips on the bias
2 cups fresh broccoli florets
1 small onion, cubed with petals separated
1 (8-ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained
Oil, for cooking
METHOD
Marinade: In a measuring cup or mason jar, combine the ingredients for the marinade, along with 1/4 cup of water. Mix well to ensure all the ingredients are incorporated.
Prep Everything: Place the meat in a medium bowl and drizzle 3 tablespoons of the prepared marinade. Use a spoon to mix the meat and marinade together. Cover the bowl and set it aside for 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. If preparing ahead of time, refrigerate the marinated meat along with the remaining sauce.
Stir Fry: When you're ready to cook, heat a tablespoon of oil in a large non-stick skillet over high heat. Add the marinated beef to the skillet and cook until it is well seared on both sides, approximately 1 minute. Transfer the seared beef to a plate.
Add the onions to the skillet with 2 teaspoons of oil (if needed). Stir them around to pick up the flavors left in the pan. Next, add the broccoli florets and water chestnuts, and stir to combine.
Return the seared beef to the skillet. Give the remaining marinade a quick stir, as the cornstarch may have settled. Pour the marinade into the skillet and quickly toss everything together, ensuring that all the ingredients are coated with the sauce. This step should take about 30-45 seconds.
Optional: Sprinkle sesame seeds over the beef and broccoli stir-fry for an extra touch of flavor and presentation.
Serve the beef and broccoli stir-fry over steamed or friend rice.
Enjoy! <3
